Hello my name is Sara Zadrozny @s_zb.
I teach at Oxford University's School of Continuing Education and on the Oxford University's summer school, on "scandal" in the Victorian family. Essentially, both my research and teaching has always focused on anything that can be located in spite of popular opinion. So I argue that "scandal" always exists with compliance and that "natural" behaviour is actually a form of manmade sanction.
My research is on anorexia, specifically in Victorian Literature. I am looking at narratives of ageism and anorexia. Looking at William Gull’s lecture notes, it is possible to identify anorexia as a disease of young girls, but rather than looking at young women and their potential for recovery - think Jane Eyre - I am interested in older women, mental illness and decay. I am just that cheerful. I am focusing on Dickens, the Brontes, Rhoda Broughton and Wilkie Collins.
I have been involved in academia since 2008, when I was lecturer in English and Education at the University of Reading until 2013. During my time at Reading, I taught and published on children's literature and the family. I am still a member of Member of CIRCL - Graduate Centre for International Research in Childhood: Literature, Culture, Media at Reading and I continue to have an interest in ideas of childhood. I also belong to the Birkbeck Research in Aesthetics of Kinship and Community (BRAKC) reading group who meet to discuss what is meant by family.
During my curation week, I would like to talk to anyone who is interested in Sir William Gull’s lecture notes – and/or anorexia in literature.I would like to have conversations about Victorian scandals; gender issues; archives; academic identity and the purpose of education - especially how we measure learning in Higher Education. I also hope to be tweeting about managing deadlines. My web page is www.zadrozny.co.uk (under construction), but that it is another project for 2016.
In my spare time, I like to get involved in travelling to warmer places. I am crazy about Cuba and I love salsa dancing. I also enjoy pub quizzes and going to the theatre. I am originally from South Wales and have yet to fully learn the language, but I get very worked up about the rugby. Most weekends, I can be found looking for books and/or Thai restaurants. I’m passionate about fighting inequality and I’m vegetarian. I have a West Highland terrier called Mollie.
