Hello everyone! I’m your curator for the week, Laura Varnam (normally tweeting @lauravarnam). I’m a medievalist and I teach Old and Middle English literature, and linguistics, at University College, Oxford. I’m currently finishing my monograph on the church as a sacred space in Middle English literature and culture and I also work on the fifteenth-century Book of Margery Kempe. I also have another research interest- the life and works of the twentieth century author, Daphne du Maurier- which started as a personal ‘hobby’ so I might be tweeting about that at some stage during my curation.
Since joining twitter, I’ve set up a blog to write about my research but I’ve also started to use the blog for write-ups of teaching experiments (teaching with twitter, for example) and as a place to collate student resources (welfare guides, study skills, dissertation preparation).
During my curation, I want to talk about social media, blogging, and research; the relationship between teaching and research, and how to balance the two; participating in conference roundtables (I’ll be doing my first in July!); advice for early career researchers on publishing; and I’ll also be sharing some of my favourite medieval things on the web! I look forward to talking to you all during the week of my curation!
